RESEAU: How AR is being used to promote Training and Remote Troubleshooting.
RESEAU Operators’ Walkthrough Lab (OWL™) is an Augmented Reality application for assisted training. This application covers several modules and is being used to provide off-site assistance in installation and start-up training for operators in water treatment plants found in first nations communities. In May of 2020, Transform Interactive partnered with RESEAU-CMI to discuss interactive technologies that would assist operators with equipment training and remote troubleshooting. Since the water treatment plants are in remote locations, one of the main problems was having very few operators available with the knowledge and skill to perform necessary maintenance tasks. Based on these pain points, as well as the setting in which the technology was going to be used, it was determined that the best solution for assisted training was to leverage a mobile/tablet application.
The RESEAU OWL™ added values such as:
- Reducing the risk of construction mistakes.
- Accessibility and convenience of training.
- Remote troubleshooting and preventative condition monitoring
- Giving operators-in-training the confidence to complete maintenance tasks when the main operator is not present.
