FDA Clears First Hololens App for Surgical Use
The OpenSight AR application for the HoloLens is now the first augmented reality system approved by the FDA for actual use in pre-op surgical planning. If you’re a mixed reality geek like us, then you’ll find this news really cool!
OpenSight is made by Novarad– a medical imaging company that has been doing this kind of stuff for decades. They already have the capability to image the inside of a patients body. Now doctors can see that data overlaid on top of a patient in real time using a Microsoft HoloLens! An educational version of OpenSight also exists for use by students, enabling them to pre-visualize dissections on cadavers.
This a great example of a company recognizing that their existing data can be re-utilized in a completely new way with mixed reality, and is an exciting glimpse into the future!
How can you re-use your existing data in augmented reality? At Cinema Suite, we provide Hololens development services that can redefine how you do business. With the imminent release of the Hololens 2, this technology is only going to become more useful and widely adopted.
